Psst...fifth graders and older siblings are encouraged to sign up to help run the games! PS 39 will be piloting a teacher assistant program in the 2016-17 school year. The purpose of this position is to work under the instruction/guidance of Administration/Cooperating Teacher to support the delivery of quality teaching and learning to help students meet grade level standards. Candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree in education or a related field and have experience working with elementary age children. Learn more about the District 15 Middle School Choice process that takes place in fifth grade. Families with rising 4th and 5th graders are strongly encouraged to attend! Two sessions available on Thursday, May 26: 8:30 am in the cafeteria and 7:00 pm in room 103.
The School Leadership Team (SLT) will have one parent seat open for next school year. The SLT is an elected advisory panel of parents and teachers that works with the school administration. The SLT helps to develop the Comprehensive Educational Plan for the school, as well as advising and addressing many other issues within the school community. Parent members of the SLT are elected by the parent body and serve a two year term. SLT meets on Tuesdays, once a month from 4- 6 pm. YOU ARE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 6TH ANNUAL 2016 CARNIVAL ART PROJECT FOR PS 39. Produce a piece of carnival-themed art for our spring fundraising event. Each piece is 16" x 16" painted (or printed, or drawn, or whatever you would like to do) on 1/4" plywood. The plywood will be provided and can be picked up in Karen Herskowitz's office, or by contacting Erica Ashe, [email protected]. Pieces are DUE MAY 25th. Artwork will be displayed in Colson's Patisserie starting May 15. The art will be sold via silent auction at Colson's until Saturday June 11.
Run, walk or stroll through Prospect Park to support PS 39 and other Brooklyn schools. Open to competitive runners and families alike! The run starts at 10 am. Sign-in starts at 8:45 am. IMPORTANT INFO from the event organizers: Due to an unexpected permitting problem, the Brooklyn PTA 5K must be moved to Saturday, May 14th, 10am start (8:45am check-in). We know this will cause inconvenience, but we hope that many families and school teams can still join the event. We know how hard schools have worked to build teams! Current registrations will still be counted toward team quotas even if you cannot make the new date. We hope runners who have already signed up will consider keeping registrations in place to benefit our PTAs, but if you have questions about the date change and your registration, please email [email protected] and[email protected]. PS 39 is hosting its annual plant sale this Saturday, May 7 from 9 am- 12 pm in our school yard. Hanging baskets, vegetable and annual flats, baked goods and much more! Join us for a demonstration from our student Green Team on how to make a sub-irrigated planter using recycled materials.
PS 39's star-studded Talent Show is June 15 at New Voices Middle School. Students in Grades 2-5 are invited to audition for this show in early May. Past acts have included vocal & instrumental performances, dance routines, stand-up comedy and much more! All students that wish to audition must return a Talent Show Audition Permission Form by Thursday, May 5th (late permission forms will NOT be accepted!).
