PS 39 strives to be an inclusive school and to provide opportunities for our families to be engaged with their child’s education and our school community. This year we will be introducing Teacher-Parent Engagement Teams to help involve more parents in a shared decision making process beyond the PTA Executive Board and School Leadership Team (SLT). Using the feedback we received from our annual SLT Parent Survey and information from our staff, we have developed four teams to help support the areas that were most important to our school community.
C.A.R.E (Creating A Respectful Environment) Team The work of this team centers on providing emotional support to our students. Team responsibilities will include creating healthy classroom communities, maintaining a harmonious lunchroom and schoolyard environment, supporting PBIS procedures throughout the school, and supporting and monitoring our new Mission Be partnership Wellness Team The work of this team centers on our students’ overall physical wellness. Team responsibilities will include creating and implementing physical activity ice breakers, planning auxiliary physical activity events, improving students’ understanding of nutrition, to select, train, and monitor the student Wellness Committee. Gardening Team The work of this team is to plan, plant, maintain, and harvest the school gardens and to work collaboratively with the science teacher to incorporate the garden into science instruction where appropriate. The team may also collaborate with the Wellness Team to support their work around nutrition. Celebration & Special Events Team The work of this team is to increase school spirit among staff and students through the creation of monthly school day celebrations/special events, planning school assemblies, and to select, train, and monitor the Student Ambassadors. Special events may include but are not limited to School Spirit Week, Read‐a‐thon, Character Day, Dr. Suess Day, Big Apple Crunch, School Gear Day, and Sports Team Day. Teacher-Parent Engagement teams will meet regularly once a month on Tuesdays from 2:45- 3:30pm on the following dates:October 13, November 24, December 8, January 12, March 22, April 19, May 10 and June 7 If you are interested in being a part of this team, please sign up online HERE. If you are unable to attend the scheduled meetings, you can still sign up to be a volunteer as needed for one of the teams. If you have any questions, please contact our Parent Coordinator, Karen Herskowitz at [email protected] or (718) 330-9310 ext. 1003. Irvin Simon will be returning to PS 39 this year to take individual student and class photos on Monday, November 9. All students will have their photo taken on this day.
