Our Book Fair will be open to parents during conference times: Wednesday, March 18 from 5-8 PM and Thursday March 19 from 1-3 PM. Shop for your own home libraries and for the classrooms… PS 39 teachers will have wish lists available so families can purchase books for their kids’ classrooms. Kids also get a chance to shop during the day with their classes. We need volunteers to help the event run smoothly—you can sign up to set up, sell books to kids and parents, or to pack up. Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 will be participating in the NY State Tests in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math in April. The ELA tests will be held on April 14, 15, 16 and the Math tests will be held on April 22, 23, 24. Families are reminded to avoid scheduling any appointments on these dates. PS 39 will be holding a workshop in late March for parents with children in testing grades.
PS 39 will be hosting a Parent Workshop about NY State testing in Grades 3-5. To accommodate family schedules both a morning and an evening session will be held. Please join us on Thursday, March 12 from 6:30-7:30 pm or on Monday, March 16 from 8:30- 9:15 am. Parents with children in testing grade levels are encouraged to attend! If you are interested in improving your kids' lives and education, and have great ideas to improve our NYC schools. participate in the Education Council elections! It's your chance to make a real impact on how your school district works for your school district works for your children and all of your neighbor's children. CECs allow for parent involvement on the district level and play an essential role in shaping education policies for New York City public schools. They have a total of 12 members: 9 parents of students K-8 (two seats are reserved for a parent of an ELL and of an IEP student), 2 members appointed by the Borough President, and 1 non-voting high school student.
No experience is needed! You just need to be a parent of NYC public school student, passionate, dedicated, and committed to making our schools the best they can be. If your child was born in 2010, then it is time to apply for Kindergarten! The NYC Department of Education Kindergarten Application Period for the 2015- 16 school year will be from January 7- February 13. Application are NOT first come, first served. Families can apply online or at a Family Welcome Center during this time period. Applications are NOT accepted at the school level. The Office of Enrollment makes all placement decisions.

Placement offers will be made by the office of Enrollment to families in Early April and pre-registration will begin in Late April. Check out the new space for our event at the Bahche Cafe (191 7th St between 2nd & 3rd Aves.). Our live auction event will be on May 9th from 7- 11pm. And don't miss the amazing online auction in late April. So mark your calendar and schedule your babysitter, because you will not want to miss this event!

Starting on January 16th, our families will once again be invited to get up and get moving on Friday mornings! That's right, Family Fitness Fridays are back for another 10- week run. This year our events will be run by our Kids in the Game coaches and will include activities including zumba, basketball, circuit training, volleyball, aerobics and lacrosse! Don't miss this opportunity to promote a healthy life style through fun, family exercise. Doors open at Camp Friendship at 7:30 am. All PS 39 students must be accompanied by an adult! Photo Proof sheets were sent home with each child that had their school photo taken in November. Irvin Simon will be back next week to take individual school photos of any students that were absent on our picture day earlier this fall. They will also be doing re-takes of any students that were not satisfied with the proofs sent home last week.
