School-Wide Events

In collaboration with the Parent Association, the school organizes a variety of fun, exciting, and engaging events that invite participation from students, parents, and staff members. These events promote community spirit and celebrate our commitment to a joyful educational experience.

  • Spooktacular

The Spooktacular is a beloved annual event at PS 39, organized and run entirely by parent volunteers. This free, Halloween-themed celebration features fun activities, games, and treats, with donations helping to fund the event and what we sell. It’s a community-driven favorite that brings festive spirit to students and families alike!

  • Spring Carnival

The Spring Carnival at PS 39 is an exciting annual event, organized by parent volunteers, that transforms 8th Street into a lively celebration. This free community event features bouncy houses, a dunk tank, an Icee truck, a magician, and plenty of fun activities for the whole family. Donations help support the event and what’s offered, making it a memorable day of springtime fun and community spirit!

  • School-Wide Picnics

School-wide picnics, like the Welcome Picnic and Kindergarten Picnic, are a great way for families to come together at the start of the school year. These casual gatherings provide an opportunity to meet new friends, reconnect with familiar faces, and kick off the year with some fun and community spirit.

  • School-Wide Playdates

This year, we’re hosting school-wide playdates at Prospect Park on select Sundays, offering a fun opportunity for PS 39 families to gather and enjoy the park together.

  • Author Visits

PS 39's author visit program brings a diverse collection of authors and illustrators  to our school to help our students learn first-hand about the art of writing. Our program is funded by the money raised by our students through our annual spring Read-a-thon hosted in May during National Screen-Free Week.  Each grade level has a visit with an author and receives a signed copy of the book the author shares.

For more information, visit our Enrichment Page to see prior year’s author visit details.

  • Stoop Chats

Stoop Chats are informal gatherings where parents of each grade level come together after drop-off to discuss school happenings, share ideas, and connect over a cup of free coffee. It’s a great way to build community and stay engaged with what’s going on at PS 39.

  • Read-a-Thon

The Read-a-Thon is a fun and engaging event where students at PS 39 challenge themselves to read as many books as possible while raising funds to support school programs. It’s a great way to promote literacy, foster a love of reading, and contribute to our school community!

  • math

    Math-a-Thon

The Math-a-Thon is a fundraiser where students solve math problems in exchange for pledges from friends and family to donate to their school or organization. The event typically lasts one or two weeks.
